Should bloggers obsess over stats?

People will tell you that 'routine is key'. This is something that I've never really believed. To me it seemed as if people were encouraging you to do the same thing over and over, no change, no variety. Which seems pretty boring if were being honest. Though since developing a routine for how I blog, this has become something that I strongly believe.
I only really started developing my blogging routine about six months ago, which in the grand scheme of things, isn't so long ago considering the fact that I've been blogging for almost four years now. I think in the last six months, since beginning to create myself a routine, I've grown so much as a blogger. My engagement has increased massively, and though it's true that it's not about the numbers, the engagement is a little bit of motivation to do more and that results in growing more and now I'm blogging in a completely different way to the way I was about a year ago.

Promoting your blog posts on different platforms seems like such an obvious thing to do, though before September it wasn't so obvious to me. I was posting a picture on Instagram with a link and that was about it. But after a little research and some lengthly Pinterest scrolling, it suddenly became apparent to me that what I was doing wasn't as affective as I thought it was.

All the blog posts about how to promote your blog seemed to give you a list as long as your arm of ALL the social media platforms you 'should' be using as a blogger. I tried, I really did. But after a while I realised what it was. Bullshit.

Don't get me wrong, I have a lotta respect for the bloggers out there who can post five Instagram pictures a day, ten tweets, god knows how may pins, keep on top of their bloglovin' profile and post an outfit of the day to 21buttons on a daily basis. I think that great. But it's just not me.

I've tried all of the above. But in all honesty, I only use Pinterest when searching for inspiration, 21 buttons never has been my thing and probably never will be, twitter is a hell of a lot to keep up with and I just can't deal with it.

I am a fan of Instagram, though. But, five pictures a day? No, thank you.

Do we need to go all out on promotion? Yes, it will get you the engagement. But we don't have to do it, and we certainly don't have to spend hours doing it and stressing over stats.

I have a very simple routine which consists of making a Pinterest thumbnail, putting up a pin, doing a v quick tweet, an Instagram photo from the blog post and a brief Instagram story. After this I allow myself some time to catch up on other people's blog posts from the last few days.

This is all I need, we don't need to obsess over stats, and we don't need to feel bad if we didn't get as many comments or likes as the person before us. I would much rather spend my time not sat at my laptop for hours promoting my latest blog post.

  2. Promotion is so much hard work! People who don't blog don't realise the effort and dedication it takes to always be promoting. You always have to be on your game, but you definitely have to find what feels right and works best for you with each platform. I try to stick to Twitter and Instagram. Amazing post!xx

  3. I think I spend most of time in promoting my blog and still I feel like I am not experienced enough. I do use Pinterest the most cause it brings me the most traffic and Instagram as well.
